What we do
PJ Spreading provides high quality litter spreading in chicken and turkey houses around PA, DE, and MD. Our custom made spreaders are able to navigate rough terrain and tight turning areas to offer evenly spread shavings that provide an excellent starting point for chicks to grow and thrive.
A typical visit to a farm looks like this: We pull into the driveway and immediately spray down the truck and spreader tires. We find a good spot that is out-of-the-way where we can unload two spreaders and a skid loader and get to work; the unloading process takes about 15 minutes. Before long, two of us will be hustling in and out of the skid loader to fill each spreader with approximately 10 yards of shavings. We can typically spread 10 yards in about 3 minutes and be back out for the next load. The time it takes to do a chicken house obviously depends on the amount of shavings and the distance to the pile, but an average house takes us approximately 45-60 minutes to complete.
Once we've spread all the shavings, we use a blower to clean the pad in front of the house; turn out the lights; and shut the door. Our objective is to be quick, neat, and efficient so there is very little downtime for you on the farm. Please check out the videos below which give you an idea of what the spreading process looks like.
